Discussion Groups
Mystery & Suspense
Tuesday, March 2nd @ 6:30 - 7:45 p.m., Main Library
In the first of Victoria Laurie's series featuring
Abby Cooper, P.I. (Psychic Intuitive), Abby must not
only deal with a client whose death she did not foresee but
a gorgeous blind date who turns out to be not just a cop but the lead
investigator on this case! Abby must not only deal with his
suspicions but with her own uncertainty in her psychic
abilities. Will she be able to "see" the killer in
time or will they strike again -- at her?
Discussion facilitated by Heidi.Ontiveros@hayward-ca.gov,
510-881-7975.
Mostly
Literary Fiction
Monday, March 8th @ Noon, Peet's Coffee (B St. and Mission) and
6:30-7:45 p.m., Main Library
We will be discussing The Little Giant of
Aberdeen County by Tiffany Baker. Since she was born,
Truly has suffered constant abuse and humiliation for her enormous
size, while her beautiful, feminine sister, Serena Jane, has been
pampered and admired. But when Serena Jane's beauty attracts a ruthless
suitor with a witch in the family, both of their destinies change
forever. Publishers Weekly glowed: "It's got all the
earmarks of a hit -- infectious and lovable narrator, a dash of
magic, an impressive sweep, and a heartrending but not treacly family
drama."
Choose from two different meeting times and locations -- noon at
Peet's Coffee & Tea or in the evening at the Main Library.
Discussion facilitated by Sally.Thomas@hayward-ca.gov,
510-881-7700. Not able to attend meetings but want to discuss this
book with others? Join GoodReads.com and
participate in online discussions! You must have an account on
GoodReads.com to participate. Contact Sally for more information.
Autobiography
& Memoir
Wednesday, March 17th @ 6:30 - 7:30 p.m., Main Library
We're reading Helene Cooper's The House at Sugar Beach:
In Search of a Lost African Childhood. Publishers
Weekly says, "Journalist Cooper has a compelling story to
tell: born into a wealthy, powerful, dynastic Liberian family
descended from freed American slaves, she came of age in the 1980s
when her homeland slipped into civil war...Cooper combines deeply
personal and wide-ranging political strands in her memoir. There's
the halcyon early childhood in Africa, a history of the early
settlement of Liberia, an account of the violent, troubled years as
several regimes are overthrown, and the story of the family's exile
to America."
Discussion facilitated by Abbe.Kalos@hayward-ca.gov, 510-881-7941.
Weekes Branch Group

Spectacular Show on Earth. When 23-year-old Jankowski learns that his
parents have been killed in a car crash, leaving him penniless, he
drops out of Cornell veterinary school and parlays his expertise with
animals into a job with the circus, where he cares for a menagerie of
exotic creatures. He also falls in love with Marlena, one of
the show's star performers. A fascinating look at circus
life.
